Talks, offering information on pregnancy, childbirth & beyond is a key feature of a top-quality baby show and recently our talk programme was announced. The topics and daily times are are:

As well as the talks in the large seminar room (called the “Severn” seminar room), there will be ongoing talks on Babies First Aid in the “Wye” seminar room by Red Dragon First Aid and workshops & demonstrations in the “Itchen” seminar room. A visit to Red Dragon is a must for all new parents.

Groups giving demonstrations in the Itchen room include Sing & Sign (daily at 12:00 & 15:00) and Little Captain Essentials (cloth nappy demonstrations) whose times will be published each day outside the Itchen room.  Times for the “Ask the Expert” forums will also be published outside the Itchen room both days.

Here are some details about just two of our experts and the contents of their talks:

Profile of Rosie Letts [BSc hons, MBANT, CHNC] is a fertility, pregnancy and integrated women’s health expert, registered Nutritional Therapist, and author. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Therapy from Westminster University where she received first-class honours in clinical work. Following university, Rosie went on to train with the innovative Institute of Functional Medicine, and regularly attends seminars across the globe as part of her commitment to attaining the highest standards of knowledge, competence, integrity and professionalism in the practice of evidence based Nutritional Therapy.

Rosie Letts: Pregnancy Nutrition Talk  What you eat and what you don’t eat during pregnancy has a profound effect on the health and development of your baby for his or her whole life. When you’re pregnant, your baby depends on you for all the building blocks required for healthy growth and development. So, it’s vital that your diet is nutrient dense and tailored to your particular stage of pregnancy. If you’re feeling pressured by the responsibility of eating for two, and confused by all the advice from well-meaning family and friends, you’re not alone. This talk will cover the foundations of a healthy pregnancy diet and you will learn to tailor your diet to each trimester.

Rosie Letts: Postnatal Nutrition Talk. The three months after birth are known as the fourth trimester. If you focus good nutrition during this time will support your body to recover from the birth, restore hormone balance and in the production of breastmilk. During this talk you will learn to eat in a way that balances your moods, keeps your energy levels high and supports gradual post-natal weight loss.

Profile of Steve Richards is the “go to” man in regard to new-borns in car safety and health, he has worked for three different car seat manufactures. Steve is particularly interested in the lowering of a new-borns blood oxygen levels when sat in a car seat and has worked alongside many global experts in regard to these concerns.  Steve was the lead speaker at the International Consumer & Research Testing (ICRT) Car Seat Conference in 2009. ICRT have about 35 global members including the UK consumer organisation Which?

Steve Richards: Travelling with A New-born Talk.  This talk is ideal for new parents who need to know their options and legal obligations in relation to using a car seat. A new-born could find themselves in a car seat within hours of their birth and choosing the wrong car seat could in a worst-case scenario have dire consequences. Steve’s talk is full of surprises and useful information that will make you feel more in control to make the right choices

“Paul has worked with child car seats for almost 20 years and most recently for the Scandinavian Child Car Seat specialists ‘BeSafe’. The Scandinavian’s are well-known for their safety conscious design and are leaders in the development of child safety when traveling in cars, pioneering the now accepted wisdom of keeping children rearfacing in cars for as long as possible. 25 years ago, the Swedish Road Safety Institute ‘VTI’ concluded ground-breaking research that proved rearfacing to be 5x safer than forward facing and now regulations Europe-wide are being changed to reflect this knowledge.”

Demonstrations & Workshops (Itchen Room).

Cloth Nappy Demonstration

Content  – an introduction to different kinds of reusables nappies and routine on how to take care of them. Parents will have a chance to touch and feel the nappies and ask questions etc. Information on different Council schemes will be provided. Demo time 30 – 60 minutes apx.
